It all began in 1986 when both FANUC and GE mutually agreed to come together and launch the GE FANUC Automation Corporation joint venture. It was stunning success, and it quickly became a leading tech company that served a wide array of industries such as energy, government and defense, and telecommunications just to name a few. Aside from sought-after CNC products, GE FANUC Automation Corporation also provided automation and embedded computing services and solutions. But just like Romeo and Juliet, it met its unfortunate end. While FANUC didn’t drink poison and GE didn’t stab itself, they dissolved their partnership in 2010- that is, more than two decades after they first got together. Of course, in those years of their powerful partnership, it is without surprise that many industrial companies and specialists became willing customers. And in the dissolution of their venture, these customers became very much like children of divorce. Arguably, Rockwell Automation is the king in the automated industrial landscape with the Allen-Bradley PLC line as the jewel in its crown. The PanelView Plus 6 Graphic Terminals, for example, has improved upon the already sought-after PanelView Plus line with graphic terminals that would allow the monitoring, control, and display of application status information graphically and, at the same time, offer the flexibility of the Windows CE® operating system. There is a vast sea of Allen Bradley PanelViews out there, most of them are probably already obsolete. Well, the entire PanelView Plus line is. They are already on PanelView 5000 if you haven’t heard. The good thing is you have the option to migrate an older version to a new one, say from PanelView Plus Series 6 to PanelView Plus Series 7. So that kind of secures the continuity of your legacy systems and backups your applications. You are even given the option to do the migration either at once or in phases, whichever suits your finances best. But is it really the most cost-effective option for you to migrate? Nah. If your PanelView Plus 1000 touchscreen stops responding, for example, would you migrate your entire system just because of that? Sure, a malfunctioning touchscreen cripples your entire production making you lose thousands of dollars per hour.
